ArtSaltのサイドストーリー

先日偶然発見したこと。
FirefoxとThunderbirdではInsキー押下でOverWriteとInsertをスイッチすることができない。ようするに上書きと挿入の切り替えができない。ようするに常に挿入モード。
（ロケーションバーとかテキストボックスで検証した）

「この事実に最初に気づいたのはワシではなかろうか！」と思って調べてみたら、気づいている人が既にいた。Ubuntuのフォーラムかよぉ。

the Insert/ Overwrite modes should be removed and gedit should always behave as if it is in what was formerly known as the Insert mode. Here is my rational:

1) The INS/OVR mode is just that... a mode, always questionable if not bad in interface design, something which should never be included without a very good reason.

2) The INS/OVR mode is apparently totally worthless,

geditというのはLinux系で使われるテキストエディタらしい。
以下はFirefoxに関するくだり。

Firefox, which I'm writing this with, doesn't do any such nonsense... and I doubt anyone has ever complained about this lack of "functionality".

たしかに「Insキー、ｲﾗﾈ」っていう人は多いね。でも、めったに使わないからこそ、このキーを何かのホットキーとして使ってる人はけっこういると思うんだ。
